How lugX started

It all started with a craving for home.

I relocated to the UK and missed my mum’s homemade mango pickles. Traditional couriers are unable to transport the jar of mango pickles due to their stringent product type, packaging restrictions and high delivery costs.

Ebenezar on the other hand is a frequent flyer who finds himself constantly travelling with unused luggage space. On one trip, he carried only a backpack for a week-long vacation to Singapore, leaving nearly 20 kilograms of his luggage allowance unused. “What a waste,” he thought.

Ebenezar and I are childhood friends, and during a reunion, Ebenezar shares how he frequently travels with unused luggage allowance and I talk about missing homemade treasures. Then I thought, “What if there was a way to connect people with unused luggage allowance to those in need of sending these home treasures? Travellers could list their trips, indicating how much luggage space they had, and those in need of luggage allowance could find a traveller heading in their desired direction”. This gave birth to LugX.

Students studying abroad can use LugX to receive parcels from home and small businesses can ship regional products to customers far and near. LugX doesn’t just connect parcels to space; it connects people and cultures. A traveller delivering jollof rice spices from Nigeria to the USA realizes a new love for Nigerian cuisine. A sender in Tokyo uses LugX to send handmade pottery to Berlin, spreading Japanese artistry. Each trip, each delivery, is a story and a bridge between cultures. With travellers becoming part of the ecosystem, they can share stories of the connections they have made along the way.
